Eleven Butchery Academy apprentices from Dunbia (Dungannon) and Dunbia (Ballymena) were presented with their Proficiency Based Qualification Certificates at a ceremony on Wednesday 11th December 2013.
Dunbia (Ireland) Ambassador Rory Best was the special guest and the event was attended by the apprentices, industry representatives, family and friends.
Speaking at the event Matthew Dobson, Dunbia (Ireland) Managign Director said: "our apprentices join the Butchery academy scheme as individuals, but from day one they are immersed into a team atmosphere. Led by experienced personnel the apprentices gain real experience and skills from colleagues who have been practising butchery for well over 30 years. This is on-the-job training and one-to-one coaching; a training style that is rare in today’s age but one that we believe is fundamental in continuing to develop a butchery team that can meet the growing demands of our customers locally and further afield throughout Europe."
Matthew continued: "our apprentices here today have all successfully completed the Dunbia Butchery training scheme and we are proud of how they have developed as skilled butchers and de-boners. The apprentices will now join the main slaughter and boning halls where we have every confidence they will continue to progress further with their butchery careers in Dunbia."
