Dunbia has welcomed Minister Michelle O’Neill’s visit to China which she is currently undertaking.

Dunbia has been a leading advocate for securing the lucrative Chinese export market for Northern Ireland’s Agri-Food industry.

“There has been a concerted effort by government and industry to secure the opening of the Chinese market for the Northern Ireland pork industry through building relationships and working through the bureaucratic process,” comments Mr Jack Dobson Executive Director Dunbia.  “At Dunbia, we have attended trade missions to China with Invest NI and DEFRA and we recently welcomed inspectors to our Ballymena facility where they conducted an audit for AQSIQ, China’s government department with responsibility for quality and food inspection.    It is vital that we keep the momentum going which is why Minster O’Neill’s current visit to China is so important.”

Dunbia is one of the largest multi-species processors in the UK, handing almost three million sheep, cattle and pigs annually.  “Developing export markets for the Northern Ireland Agri-Food industry is crucial for its future growth,” adds Mr Dobson.  “It is encouraging to see the positive strides being made for the pork industry in China.  We need to ensure that we can maximise the relationships built to open the markets for other commodities including beef.”

Dunbia, who has been supporting moves to open Chinese markets for Northern Ireland pork, welcomed Chinese Consul General, Ms Wang Shuying to the Dunbia stand at the Balmoral Show.
